Traphene Hickman Library In A Park
Cedar Hill just added a new library to their city and it is very state of the art. The library is located in Signature Park and is a major upgrade to their previous library. The Cedar Hill Museum is also housed inside the library with exhibits on local history. The library has the standard features, as well as a makerspace, multiple balconies, a coffee cafe, and event rental spaces.
When you first come through the entrance you can see the Cedar Hill museum. They have several exhibits about Cedar Hill and have programs and events.
The children's section is on the right when you enter through the main entrance. They have a coloring station set up for kids with coloring sheets and crayons and markers. There is a large play section with lots of toys for different ages, including a play house. In the back corner there is also a stem wall that lets kids use different materials to make a ball drop and a doll house. There is also a program room for programs like storytime. Outside the children's section is a large patio and a sound garden for children to play various musical instruments. You can check out library programs at this link.
Upstairs they have the adult and teen sections. The teen section is enclosed in glass walls and only teens are allowed to spend time in these rooms. There are many study rooms around the edge of the second floor. There is also a quiet reading room, a quite reading balcony, an event balcony, and a smaller balcony. The balconies provide great views of the surrounding park. There is also a digital media studio and a makerspace, but they are working on getting these up and running. Suggestions for either space are welcome!
On the lower level there is a pop-up coffee cart that serves White Rhino coffee and a cafe area to sit. There is also a large event space that will be available for rental.
Outside the park has a 1.4 mile paved trail along with lots of amenities like benches, swings, ping-pong tables, and bike servicing stations.
Overall this library is very impressive and definitely a place your kids will enjoy!
