Perot Museum
The Perot Museum has exhibits for all ages. The musical instruments, leap frogs, and creek greet you as you walk up to the museum. The dinosaur at the top of the escalator is a fun way to be greeted. On the second level, the button light music machine is great for younger children. The scarf blowing machine is also on this level.
The children's section on the basement level could easily entertain younger children all day. There is a camping section, water play, cityscape playground, art area, toddler area, pretend grocery and a gravel excavation pit outside. There is a family restroom located inside the children's area, along with a larger bathroom just around the corner. The water play area lets kids splash around, and there are lots of smocks provided to keep kids semi-dry. The gravel pit outside includes pails and digging supplies for kids to excavate the hidden bones. The playground is designed to look like a mini version of Dallas with the most famous landmarks available to explore. The grocery section allows kids to select food and flowers, and for older kids there are games to play. The art section contains several puzzle activities along with some sort of craft. The toddler section is perfect for young children to crawl around, though they will be happy in any area of the children's museum. The camping section allows kids to pretend to camp by cooking over a fire, climbing through and on a log, and playing in a tent.
Though the Children's Museum exhibit is not as popular with field trip groups, the rest of the museum gets very busy with field trips, so be aware the younger kids may be overwhelmed by older kids. Eating is not allowed in the museum, but there is a cafe and tables with chairs available outside the main entrance and a smaller section right outside ticketing. Eating is not allowed outside in the dinosaur dig area to keep from attracting ants. There are several parking meters as well as a parking lot for the museum.
A membership to the Perot would easily pay for itself after visiting just a few times. Members of the Fort Worth Museum or McKinney Heard Museum can get free admission as long as they pay for the upgraded level.
