Midlothian Community
Midlothian Community Park is a really impressive park. The splash pad is fantastic and the playground next to it is very entertaining. This park has everything you could want, playgrounds, splash pad, amphitheater, lake, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball fields, concession stands, walking trails, and a football field. There are playgrounds next to both the soccer fields and the baseball fields which is great for siblings of athletes to play on during practices and games.
The splash pad incorporates both natural and man-made elements. There are several rocks that water sprays from and stepping stones with a river that rushes through them. At the end closest to the lake the water goes under the sidewalk to flow into the lake. There is a frog and a snail that kids can spin. There are lots of different elements that kids can enjoy. There are several picnic tables and benches surrounding the splash pad with coverings over them. The splash pad water is supplied with fresh drinking water and is not recycled for use, however it shouldn't be drunk as it can become contaminated from use. The splash pad is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during late spring (after the first freeze around spring break) to early fall (mid October).
There is a playground just a little ways from the splash pad. It is very modern with something for kids of all ages. There are climbing structures, slides, a swing, an ADA accessible merry-go-round, and benches. Though there are no shades, the playground is well shaded by tall trees. There is a huge slide that is very impressive. The pathway is rubber, but the area under the play structures is mulch.
Between the splash pad and playground there is a large bathroom with a changing table and covered porch. There are tables under the porch area and further down. You can watch both the splash pad and the playground from the porch area.
This park was clearly designed to be a place where families can have fun together.
