Bicentennial Park - Pantego
Pantego's Bicentennial Park is a great park to take kids. The ground around the playground equipment is turf, which I love because it means no bugs and a softer landing when kids fall. The playground equipment has obviously seen lots of use and could do with some maintenance, but nothing is too dangerous for kids to play on. The South Side of the park has two playgrounds, restroom, swings, a splash pad, sand volleyball, a pavillion, a gazebo, and a walking trail. The North Side of the park is smaller and has a walking trail, playground, and restroom.
The splash pad is great, and has nice opening hours. It is open 9 AM - 8 PM every day from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It is nice that it opens at 9 since the heat really starts to hit you the later in the day it gets. It also doesn't seem to shut off automatically, which is nice for kids who aren't great at hitting the button. There are plenty of water features for several kids to enjoy. There is also a shaded bench area with artificial grass next to the splash pad for adults to hang out. The turf is great because it also means the kids don't get muddy when they transition from the splash pad to the playground. Everything is close together and within eyesight if you take multiple kids who want to play in different areas. Sometimes summer camps bring kids to the splash pad in the summer, so be aware that a large group could show up.
The Town of Pantego hosts several events throughout the year at Bicentennial Park. It is definitely a park to check out if you have kids who want to cool off in the summer or go to a fun seasonal event!
